Experience
I studied English at the University of Alberta, in Canada, where I earned my bachelor's degree. I had the honor of being published while I attended school there, and was awarded a number of scholarships and academic distinctions. I believe this was mainly because of my great love of English as a subject. I'm certified as a high school teacher, and I work hard at my goal of infusing this love of ELA into all of my students, whether it's their best subject or not. As far as I'm concerned, all students can gain an appreciation of English/ Language Arts, and improve in the subject. I first focus on strategies, which lead a student to understanding, and from there we move on to improvement, and finally - they appreciate ELA. I use a scaffolding strategy, where my student and I go through a text together. While doing so, I explain my take on what's happening. Then we will use a different piece to do it over again, and the student voices their understanding. This approach has helped my students improve in poetry, reading comprehension, Shakespeare, and even in their own writing. I've always dreamed of being a teacher. Other things I enjoy are reading, crafting, writing, and working out.
